Suitcase Product Design for Manufacture

We designed a suitcase line for manufacture: the shell, the lid, the handle, and the variants a factory can actually tool. The engagement included handling Chinese contractors so the drawings and the shop floor were talking about the same product.

Engineering support across the product lifecycle

The systems we're asked for most often. These are capabilities we engineer, not completed client projects - ask for relevant past work during the consultation.

Proof of concept

Validate the core technical idea before committing to tooling or a complete product build.

Connected embedded product

Electronics, firmware, sensors, communications, and a user-facing application designed as one product.

Computer-vision inspection

Capture, analyze, and act on visual information in a controlled operating environment.

Robotic or automated workcell

Motion, sensing, industrial controls, and system software coordinated around the safety requirements of the application.

Custom test & measurement

Test fixtures, automated test equipment, data acquisition, and calibration systems built around your product.

Existing-product redesign

Component obsolescence, integration limits, reliability concerns, cost targets, or new feature requirements addressed in a controlled revision.

3D printing & short-run manufacture

Print the part, check the fit, and write the notes a later production run would actually need.

How we develop your product

3AXIS focuses on validating each stage before the next one gets expensive, so your product reaches production with far fewer surprises.

  1. Requirements & Feasibility

We agree what the product must do and where it must do it: requirements, performance targets, environment, interfaces, cost and volume assumptions, and regulatory targets. You get the technical risks we can see and the criteria we'd measure against - not a claim that every unknown is now resolved.

  2. Architecture & Engineering

We set the system architecture and split the work across mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software: component selection, power and communication requirements, interface definitions, the test strategy, and the development milestones the build is measured against.

  3. Prototype & Validation

We build in iterations, test each one against the agreed specification, investigate what fails, and fold the fixes back into the design. Environmental and pre-compliance testing is included where the product needs it and the scope covers it.

  4. Production & Deployment

Manufacturing documentation, design-for-manufacturing review, supplier and component coordination, test procedures, and pilot builds - then quality feedback, field deployment, and production support under the scope we agree.

Why 3AXIS

One team responsible for making the whole system work

We coordinate hardware, firmware, software, sensing, controls, integration, and production requirements as one system, and stay accountable for how they behave together.

  • Cross-disciplinary system ownership

We coordinate the boundaries between mechanical, electrical, firmware, software, AI, controls, and manufacturing rather than handing them off.

  • Production-aware engineering

Manufacturability, component availability, testability, and lifecycle are considered while the design can still change cheaply.

  • Verification at defined milestones

Each stage is judged against agreed requirements and test criteria, not against whether the prototype looks convincing.

  • Integration-focused delivery

Every component is engineered as part of the complete operating system, not as an isolated subsystem that someone else has to fit together.

  • Lifecycle and production support

We stay available for firmware updates, component changes, production investigations, field issues, and planned improvements where the engagement includes them.

FAQ

Questions worth asking first

Any of them. Some clients arrive with a one-page concept, some with a prototype that works but can't yet be built repeatably, and some with a product already in production that has a cost, reliability, or component-obsolescence problem. Tell us where the product actually stands and we'll tell you what the sensible next step is.

We can support the path from concept and feasibility through prototyping, design validation, and manufacturing readiness, and stay on for production and field support under the agreed scope. Manufacturing itself, tooling, and accredited certification testing involve third parties - we specify, coordinate, and review that work rather than claiming all of it happens in-house.

Yes, and it's a common arrangement. We can take one discipline, own the integration between several, or run the whole programme. We work to written interfaces and agreed review points so the split of responsibility between the two teams is documented rather than assumed.

It depends on the stage the product is at, how many engineering disciplines are involved, prototype complexity, tooling, testing, regulatory targets, manufacturing volume, how much usable documentation already exists, and what you need delivered. We don't publish figures that would only be guesses. After a short discovery conversation you get a written scope and estimate before development starts.

Yes. Design-for-manufacturing and assembly review, component and supply-chain review, tolerance and material review, and staged validation with defined criteria at each gate - engineering validation, design validation, and production validation - together with the test procedures and production documentation that go with them.

We can design toward the applicable requirements, support pre-compliance work, prepare technical documentation, and coordinate with appropriate accredited test laboratories or certification bodies. In the UAE that usually means TDRA type approval for anything with a radio, and ECAS conformity where the product category is regulated - our guide to taking a hardware product to market in the UAE explains both. We don't issue approvals ourselves, and no engineering firm can guarantee a certification outcome - what we can do is reduce the chance of a late and expensive failure at the test house.

Arm Cortex-M and Cortex-A devices, including the STM32, ESP32 and NXP i.MX families, NVIDIA Jetson for edge AI and computer vision, and custom FPGA work - running bare-metal firmware, FreeRTOS, Zephyr, or embedded Linux. The platform follows the product's power, cost, connectivity, and lifecycle requirements rather than the other way round.

The work we produce specifically for you - design files, firmware, application code, and documentation - is handed over under the terms of your agreement. A product also contains things nobody can sign away: third-party components, vendor SDKs, open-source licences, licensed tooling, and any pre-existing or manufacturing-partner rights. We identify those in the deliverables list so ownership and licensing are clear before work starts rather than after.

We operate from Dubai, UAE. We work with clients across the Emirates and the wider GCC, and remotely with clients further afield - keeping working hours that overlap yours and running the project the same way wherever you are.
