Injection-Moulded Water Bottle

A bottle that has to come out of a mould is a different object from a bottle that only has to look right. We designed this one for injection moulding.

Process

Injection moulding

The brief

A water bottle that had to be moulded, not printed once. Body, lid, and the close between them, with the draft, wall and parting line an injection tool needs.

The client is under NDA. The work is the part that can leave a cavity, not a brand we can put on the page.

The challenge

A bottle is a thin wall around a volume. Injection moulding punishes anything that was only modelled as a solid.

  • Draft on every wall that has to leave the tool
  • A lid that closes, seals, and still pulls from its own cavity
  • A parting line that does not sit where a hand or a mouth will feel it
  • Walls thin enough to mould and thick enough not to sink

How we approached it

The body and the lid were modelled as two tools from the start. Ribs, the ring, and the lid teeth are features a steel can cut, not decoration added after a pretty still.

The clay view is the check: no brand, no colour, just the surfaces a moulder will argue about. Colour and a mark come later, on a part that already works.

What we built

A mouldable bottle: body, lid, and the files a toolmaker can quote. The photograph is the unbranded sculpt.

We do not publish the client, the cavity count, or a unit cost.

Results

The engagement is under NDA. We do not publish who it was built for, volumes, or a cycle time.

In use

A later colour or a later lid uses the same cavities. The next conversation starts from the tool, not from a new sketch.

This engagement is covered by a confidentiality agreement, so the client is not named and some implementation detail is described in general terms.
